Case Study
I fell into this role by accident. When my daughter joined the school I didn’t know anyone and realised that most parents in our class felt the same. I took it upon myself to organise a ‘getting to know you’ social and was overwhelmed by the response and support I received. From our first social outing to the Fulham Pottery Shop to running the Advent Fair (which was a great success and raised £6k), parents have really got to know one another and given ‘hands on’ support. Fellow parents pointed out that as I seemed to have a ‘knack’ for organising would I like to be Class Rep? I thought OK why not - and here I am three years later!
You do not have to be a brilliant organiser, but you must like people and mixing. Remember - the role is about sharing and not doing everything by yourself! A Class Rep should encourage parents and let them volunteer for what they are able to take on. So parents, please support your Class Rep - they cannot do the work without you!
