Community and public benefit
We are firmly rooted in our local community and warmly welcome girls from a wide range of backgrounds. We also have a strong ethos of promoting public and community benefit and have several ongoing programmes including:
Partnerships with local state schools with a wide selection of activities:
- A Hockey Academy for local primary schools. This is an ever-growing programme, supported by sponsorship from HSBC
- Sports fixtures
- A day of excellence organised by our English and Drama Departments, to which local schools are invited
- Theatre In Education project with local primary schools
- Astronomy classes to GCSE level that take place after school
- Local schools invited to our biennial Careers Conventions
- A Forest Schools initiative with a local primary school, supported by sponsorship from HSBC
Local community access to our facilities:
- Access to all-weather pitch for local schools and clubs
- Accommodation for the Lambeth Community Project in the summer holiday
- Local residents can use facilities at reduced rates
- A variety of Open Door Programmes, organised by outside organisations including: Saturday Morning Master classes; Gym Club; Pottery Classes and Islamic School
Charitable fundraising
This is a responsibility we take seriously and pupils take part in the following initiatives:
- Regular charitable fundraising for one local and one national charity per term
- Additional fundraising by our parents' association which supports local children's charities alongside school fundraising
- Partnership with school in South Africa
- Duke of Edinburgh Award participants undertake a community service component
Develop links in as many ways as possible, both locally and abroad. Recent initiatives have included:
- Welcoming students from overseas (Netherlands and Sweden in 2010)
- Donations of books and school uniform to schools abroad
- Hosting Houses of Parliament Award ceremony following an Art competition organised by the House of Commons. We were pleased to welcome the Rt Hon John Bercow, the Speaker of the House, to present the awards
- A series of lectures outlining what the Victorians did for Britain, delivered by members of the teaching staff
- Regular evening talks for parents to emphasise the importance of Internet Safety
- An annual Art Lecture, open to all
Supporting recruitment into the teaching profession. Recently, we have offered:
- Regular PGCE placements with Anglia Ruskin University and University of Plymouth
- Pupil and staff shadowing by staff from Lambeth College
- Pre PGCE work experience
