Senior School Admissions

Registration

Pupils may be admitted to the school at any age, but the principal points of entry to the Senior School are at 11+, 13+, and 16+ (Sixth Form).

Before the school can consider any candidate for entry, the application form must be completed and returned to the Registrar, Phyllis Warner, together with a non-refundable registration fee of £100 (£125 for overseas applicants), a current photograph, a copy of her last school report and a copy of her passport (or birth certificate if no passport is held).

The closing date for applications for 11+ entry is Wednesday 22 November 2017 (bursary applications by 15 November 2017).  Early application is strongly advised. In the last academic year the school was significantly over-subscribed and was obliged to operate a waiting-list for entry.

Phyllis Warner can be contacted on admissions@schs.gdst.net or 020 3123 9102.

Interviews and the Entrance Examination

All candidates for 11+ entry are called for interview in the Michaelmas Term. They are interviewed by senior staff in groups of two. Reading, group work, initiative, spelling, mathematical ability and general knowledge are assessed during the course of this interview. Applicants for 13+ entry will have individual interviews after the 13+ entrance examination.

All candidates sit the school’s entrance examination.  Dates for the examinations will be:

11+  : Wednesday 3 January 2018 (reserve date Friday 5 January 2018)

13+  : Wednesday 10 January 2018

Confirmation of the arrangements for the examinations will be sent to parents of all registered candidates by letter in December.

The 11+ examination comprises papers in Mathematics (a paper designed to test each girl’s potential to develop higher-order thinking skills and her ability to apply these skills to everyday problems), and English (a creative writing exercise, a comprehension passage and a précis exercise).  Applicants for 13+ entry sit papers in English, Mathematics and Science.

Specimen papers for 11+ entry may be downloaded from the website.

Special Educational or Medical Needs

Parents must indicate on the application form if their daughter has any specific learning or medical needs.
