Prep School Admissions

Registration

Before the school can consider any girl for entry, the application form must be completed and returned to the Registrar, Phyllis Warner, together with a non-refundable registration fee of £100 (£125 for overseas pupils).  Once the application has been received, the school will contact parents to arrange an assessment. Our aim is to make this as stress-free as possible for your daughter so that we can see her potential.

For additional information, please contact the Prep School Head's PA, Jackie Sellers, on j.sellers@schs.gdst.net or 020 8674 6912.

Entry to Nursery

Applications are accepted from birth but ideally should be made when the child is 2½ years of age.

Girls enter the Nursery in the term that they reach the age of 3. They are invited to attend a play session which lasts for about 45 minutes in the term prior to entry. They are observed by the Nursery staff, who assess their social and developmental skills

4+ (Reception)

Girls enter Reception in the September following their 4th birthday. There are a number of additional places for external candidates at this stage. Girls are invited for an informal one-to-one assessment with the Head of Foundation Stage Co-ordinator. This lasts about 30 minutes. They are assessed in accordance with the developmental expectations for their age.

7+ (Year 3)

Girls enter Year 3 in the September following their 7th birthday. There are several additional places for external candidates at this stage. Girls are invited for assessment with the Head or Deputy Head of SCPS. This usually lasts one hour. Girls are tested in English and Mathematics. An assessment will also be made of the candidate’s approach and attitude to learning.

The assessment date is Tuesday 21st November.

Following the assessment a written report is requested from the candidate’s current school prior to an offer being made.

Process for Entry

Once an offer has been made, parents have four weeks to accept the place. The acceptance deadlines for 4+ and 7+ entry are co-ordinated with the other selective schools in the area.

The Head must receive written notice of acceptance of a place. On accepting the place, a deposit of £1,000 is payable, which is held until the end of the pupil’s final term at school.  This is refunded within 12 weeks of a pupil’s leaving, less any sums owing to the Trust or school at the time.  It is non-refundable in the event of a pupil’s not taking up the accepted place. (The deposit is transferred to the Senior School when a girl moves to Year 7).

In the Summer Term we invite all new girls to an induction day, so that they can meet staff and their peers prior to commencing their studies in September.

How to Apply

Please complete the Application Form, which should be returned to the Registrar at the Senior School.
